MID CLASS - Wednesday Evenings

The breaks between the Main Classes are a necessary part of the process giving space and time to absorb the work learnt: time to independently practice the abilities and work acquired in the main session and then apply these abilities and tools more creatively in the industry. However, without practice and application, all training wanes. Mid Class is an opportunity to utilize a place of practice and application.

These mid class sessions run for 4 weeks on Wednesday evenings and are placed two weeks after and two weeks before the start of Main Class. Two mid classes focus on auditioning and presentation of your work. This studio environment focuses on application of the techniques acquired to strengthen your established methodology.

Then the other two classes focus on unlocking both your voice & body, just as vital for TV & Films, as for the stage. As an actor without an evolved relationship with your voice and body, you will have little means to express the life created within. Therefore under the excellent instruction of Emma Woodvine & Elizabeth Ballinger, their teaching releases your instrument to let your work creatively expand through your physical and vocal actions.

The mid session structure is

1st Hour: Movement Class
2nd Hour: Voice Class
3rd Hour: Sensory technique

Each section sharpens and improves the strength of your abilities, putting you in the best shape to take on the opportunity of work. This means not only does class truly develop your potential, but also enables you to seize the opportunities the industry offers up.

The craft of acting is an evolving journey offering up great expansion and creativity. The career of an actor is totally rooted in craft, as any opening in the industry can only be taken based on ability to actualise your creative endeavours. Main class is the body of this work, it is the heart of the facility and the means to build the muscles for that craft & technique, but as an opening to those who can't attend the month, this 3 day intensive starts a journey in the foundation of Method and the classical skills any successful actor requires.

The three days takes you on a profoundly inspiring path through the depth that Method offers to the creative process alongside the dynamics aspects of movement and voice. You will leave with an insightful understanding and a beginning ability to apply some of the creative tools and approaches that the work of Lee Strasberg unfolded at the Actors Studio NY - alongside the dynamic vocal and movement skills taught at the UK's leading drama schools.

The class is an unique opportunity to work with Elizabeth Ballinger & Emma Woodvine who, respectively, are adjunct teachers at RADA and Guildhall School Music & Drama. They also work with other drama schools, theatre companies, and coach privately. Sam Rumbelow's unique expertise in teaching of Method will be complimented by their specialised and skilled capacity as movement and voice teachers.

The 3 days provide a specially constructed pathway to the core components of the creative process. Each step actively introduces you to specific exercises, tools, and skills which build a full sense of methodology. Method cannot be built over 3 days, but as your craft is developed over time and with application, these 3 day classes can provide a solid foundation.

Day 1: Introduction to Method

A full practical workshop about the tools, technique & exercises that make up the engine of Method.

Day 2: Voice & Movement

A selection of classes to inspire and release the creative potential of the voice and body.

Day 3: Scenes & Methodology

On the third day, we examine and tailor your practical approach to the creative challenges of script & character - establishing acting that has an inspiring method for your craft and career. Utilising the work of days 1 & 2, each component is considered in the construction of a creative methodology.
